Living* Youth Participant Community Agreement Contract

*Students may add to the agreements at any point of the year

MAKE/TAKE SPACE:

  • I will make space when I regularly take up space. I will take up space when I regularly don’t take space. I will honor my peers and artist facilitators as equal art partners.

ONE DIVA, ONE MIC:

  • I understand that we have a limited amount of time together on this fashion project. I will not talk over other students/artist facilitators or have side conversations that interrupt the class until it is my turn to take the stage.

NAME SYSTEMS OF OPPRESSION:

  • I understand that PHS AIR is a response to the displacement of families of color and low-income families in East Portland, especially Parkrose district. Thus, PHS AIR prioritizes those most impacted, youth of color.

  • I understand that (and/or will be committed to learning about) inequalities and inequities are a part of an ongoing process of white supremacy including but not limited to imperialism, heteronormativity, heterosexism, settler-colonialism, and ableism.

RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CHANGE YOUR MIND

  • I am my best advocate. I will advocate for myself or reach someone who I trust to advocate for me if I feel uncomfortable in the space. This can take any shape such as leaving the space or having conversations about the conflict.

WORK ON IDENTIFYING YOUR ASSUMPTIONS / BE COMFORTABLE BEING UNCOMFORTABLE

  • I understand that I am a human and no human is perfect. I will work on being ready to be called out/called in. I will work on owning the impact of my actions. I will do the personal work to undo any internal oppressive assumptions. I will unapologetically ask questions and encourage others to ask questions too.

PRACTICE SELF-CARE

  • I will listen to my body and follow my body’s needs.
